Side Hustle: Making Money Outside Your Day Job

If you’re looking for a way to make money on the side, you’re not alone. Millions of Americans have side hustles, gigs that they take on outside of work hours to make a few extra bucks. How can you make the most of your free time to bring in some spending money? That’s what we’re talking about today!

App-Based Job

A surefire way to make money when you’re off the clock is to sign up for a gig job like driving for Uber or delivering food for GrubHub. These app-based gigs allow you to sign in when you’re ready to make some money, letting you work at your own pace.

There are a few caveats, of course. You ideally want to spend enough time working to offset the cost of fuel and the wear and tear on your car. If you can’t dedicate more than a few hours each week to this endeavor, a gig job might not be for you.

If you have a fuel-efficient car and ample free time, though, a gig job can bring in plenty of spending money. Why not spend some nights and weekends driving strangers to food, or driving food to strangers?

Dog-Walking

Do any of your friends have pets? If so, they might need a dog walker. Offer to look after their animals before they hire a professional caretaker, you could use your spare time to make a few bucks and save your friends some money, too!

While you’re looking after the pups, you can also make more money through a passive side hustle like taking surveys or performing Mechanical Turk jobs. Just make sure the dogs stay safe and don’t wander off, and you’ll be an excellent dog-walker!

Passive Side Hustles

Sometimes you want to make money without leaving your house. Unfortunately, you can’t guarantee that your job will let you work from home. That’s where passive side hustles come in! You can make money from your computer by filling out surveys for research firms. These surveys are time-consuming and don’t pay much, but they’re money in your pocket in exchange for your free time.

You can also perform tasks on Mechanical Turk to make a few bucks in your downtime. These jobs are usually mindless, but they require a human instead of a machine learning algorithm. If you have the patience to complete jobs on the Mechanical Turk board, you can find yourself making a bit of money before you know it!
